Day 1, 2 & 3 – Airport / Hikkaduwa
Your adventure in Sri Lanka starts with a relaxing stay in the picturesque Hikkaduwa beach. Your driver will pick you up from the airport and take you to your hotel in Hikkaduwa without a delay.
Although the idea of planning a beach stay towards the beginning of the tour is to allow you to get some rest, there are many activities available in your first days. You may enjoy some snorkeling, swimming or jet skiing in the lovely Hikkaduwa beach. Be sure to visit the Galle Fort while you are there. It is a UNESCO listed world heritage site located very close to Hikkaduwa.
Travel time from airport to Unawatuna – 2.5 hours
Day 1, 2 & 3 – Airport / Hikkaduwa
Your adventure in Sri Lanka starts with a relaxing stay in the picturesque Hikkaduwa beach. Your driver will pick you up from the airport and take you to your hotel in Hikkaduwa without a delay.
Although the idea of planning a beach stay towards the beginning of the tour is to allow you to get some rest, there are many activities available in your first days. You may enjoy some snorkeling, swimming or jet skiing in the lovely Hikkaduwa beach. Be sure to visit the Galle Fort while you are there. It is a UNESCO listed world heritage site located very close to Hikkaduwa.
Travel time from airport to Unawatuna – 2.5 hours
Day 4 – Hikkaduwa / Yala
The fourth day of the tour will be an exciting day for the kids. Your driver will take you to Yala national park for a jeep safari. If you are interested, a camping night inside the Yala national park is also a possibility.
Around 3.00 pm your jeep safari begins. The time will fly by while you enjoy the scenic Yala national park. This small piece of heaven is home to many elephants, deer, water buffalos, mongooses, jackals, crocodiles, wild rabbits, peacocks, sloth bears, and leopards and these are just a few of its residents.
Travel time from Hikkaduwa to Yala – about 3.5 hours
Day 4 – Hikkaduwa / Yala
The fourth day of the tour will be an exciting day for the kids. Your driver will take you to Yala national park for a jeep safari. If you are interested, a camping night inside the Yala national park is also a possibility.
Around 3.00 pm your jeep safari begins. The time will fly by while you enjoy the scenic Yala national park. This small piece of heaven is home to many elephants, deer, water buffalos, mongooses, jackals, crocodiles, wild rabbits, peacocks, sloth bears, and leopards and these are just a few of its residents.
Travel time from Hikkaduwa to Yala – about 3.5 hours
Day 5 & 6 – Yala / Ella
In the morning of day 5, your driver will take your family to Ella. This small village in the hill country is known for its beautiful hikes and the breathtaking views. You can easily spend days enjoying its beauty.
There is no fixed schedule for Ella. You may visit the Little Adam’s Peak, Ella Rock, Ravana waterfall, 9 Arch Bridge or enjoy a scenic train ride. Just tell your guide what you would like to do. He will make the necessary arrangements accordingly.
Travel time from Yala to Ella – About 3 hours
Day 5 & 6 – Yala / Ella
In the morning of day 5, your driver will take your family to Ella. This small village in the hill country is known for its beautiful hikes and the breathtaking views. You can easily spend days enjoying its beauty.

Day 7 & 8 – Ella / Gal Oya
On day 7, the adventure continues to Gal Oya. Take a lung full of fresh air and feast your eyes on the greenery and the wildlife. You may hop into a jeep for a safari in the Gal Oya national park or take a boat ride in the Senanayake Lake to witness the abundance of wildlife. Another unique experience that you can enjoy in Gal Oya is meeting the indigenous Vaddas. We are sure your family is going to fall in love with this tranquil small village.
Travel time from Ella to Gal Oya – About 4 hours
Day 7 & 8 – Ella / Gal Oya
On day 7, the adventure continues to Gal Oya. Take a lung full of fresh air and feast your eyes on the greenery and the wildlife. You may hop into a jeep for a safari in the Gal Oya national park or take a boat ride in the Senanayake Lake to witness the abundance of wildlife. Day 9, 10, 11 & 12 – Gal Oya / Pasikuda
Around 10.00 am your driver will pick you up from your hotel and take you to Pasikuda for the second beach stay of your tour. The pristine beach is one of the best beaches for relaxation in Sri Lanka. If you are interested, you may also enjoy sea swimming and snorkeling in Pasikuda. (Generally, it is very calm during the period May to October.) The bravest may enjoy diving and discover the many mysteries hidden in the blue ocean.
Travel time from Gal Oya to Pasikudah – 3.5 hours
Day 9, 10, 11 & 12 – Gal Oya / Pasikuda
Around 10.00 am your driver will pick you up from your hotel and take you to Pasikuda for the second beach stay of your tour. The pristine beach is one of the best beaches for relaxation in Sri Lanka. If you are interested, you may also enjoy sea swimming and snorkeling in Pasikuda. (Generally, it is very calm during the period May to October.) The bravest may enjoy diving and discover the many mysteries hidden in the blue ocean.

Day 13 – Pasikudah / Matale
There is no better way to get to know a country than meeting the locals who actually live there. If your family does not mind giving up the comfort of a hotel for one night, we can arrange a homestay in Matale to experience the real local life in Sri Lanka. Once you reach there, you can immerse yourselves in their day-to-day activities such as going to the farm, shopping for groceries from the local market and cooking dinner.
Travel time from Pasikudah to Matale – about 3.5 hours
Day 13 – Pasikudah / Matale
There is no better way to get to know a country than meeting the locals who actually live there. If your family does not mind giving up the comfort of a hotel for one night, we can arrange a homestay in Matale to experience the real local life in Sri Lanka. Once you reach there, you can immerse yourselves in their day-to-day activities such as going to the farm, shopping for groceries from the local market and cooking dinner.

Day 14 & 15 – Matale / Negombo
To spend the last two night in Sri Lanka, your driver will take you to Negombo, which is a small fishing village close to the Colombo airport. You may either spend your time leisurely in your beachfront hotel or keep yourself busy doing some excursions. For an example, you may enjoy a boat safari in Muturajawela lagoon, visit Negombo fish market or drive to Colombo for a city tour and shopping.
Travel time from Matale to Negombo – about 3.5 hours
Day 14 & 15 – Matale / Negombo
To spend the last two night in Sri Lanka, your driver will take you to Negombo, which is a small fishing village close to the Colombo airport. You may either spend your time leisurely in your beachfront hotel or keep yourself busy doing some excursions. For an example, you may enjoy a boat safari in Muturajawela lagoon, visit Negombo fish market or drive to Colombo for a city tour and shopping.

Day 16 – Back to home
It is the last day of your Sri Lanka family adventure. Time permitting you may enjoy the morning relaxing by the beautiful Negombo beach.
As all good things must come to an end, your driver will take you to the airport to catch your return flight. He will give his farewells there and drive back to Colombo. If you enjoyed his service, please offer him a small tip before he leaves. You will make his day.
End of the tour
Day 16 – Back to home
It is the last day of your Sri Lanka family adventure. Time permitting you may enjoy the morning relaxing by the beautiful Negombo beach.
As all good things must come to an end, your driver will take you to the airport to catch your return flight. He will give his farewells there and drive back to Colombo. If you enjoyed his service, please offer him a small tip before he leaves. You will make his day.

The tour cost depends on the month that you travel, number of adults and children participating the tour and the hotels that you choose for the tour. Please drop us a message specifying your requirements, so we can send you the exact cost for this tour.
2. Is this itinerary suitable for young kids?
Yes, we can recommend this itinerary for a family travelling with young kids.
3. Is it possible to plan the itinerary including the attraction in the Sigiriya area?
Yes, we can amend the itinerary and include a few nights in Sigiriya, which will allow you to enjoy the excursions in the Sigiriya area.
4. Is it possible to add a whale watching tour to this itinerary?
This itinerary is most recommended for the period May to October, which is the off season for whale watching in Sri Lanka.
If you are travelling during the period November to April, we can make a few changes to this itinerary and include a whale watching tour in Mirissa. (Mirissa is the most suitable location for whale watching in Sri Lanka.)
